Dr. Brian Carlson

Brian Carlson joined Clinical Psychologists, P.C. in May, 2024. He was born in Bethlehem, PA, but has spent the majority of his life in Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University in 2004 with a BA in Psychology. Brian attended graduate school at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, where he received his MS in Psychology and his PsyD in Clinical Psychology. Brian completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Georgia Southern University Counseling and Career Development Center, where he focused on individual and group therapy with university students. He also has experience working with adolescents in both rehabilitation and community settings, as well as with older adults in long-term care.

Brian returned to the Auburn area with his family in 2014 to reconnect with the community he considers to be home. He served the community in private practice for three and a half years prior to joining CPPC, working with adolescents, college students, and adults of all ages, primarily in individual psychotherapy.

Currently, Brian works with clients who are in their mid-teens through all of adulthood. He is able to work with most concerns, with emphasis on multicultural aspects of care and functioning. The most common areas of concern include depression, anxiety, adjustment, interpersonal and relationship concerns, identity, and grief and loss. Brian believes that the majority of progress in therapy is based in the therapeutic relationship. Because of this, he works hard to build a relationship in which clients can safely explore their concerns. This includes providing a supportive environment that is free of judgment. He also believes that supportively challenging his clients is helpful in therapy. In other words, he may gently challenge clients to consider past and current relationships, thoughts and emotions, and motivation for change. Brian’s training and experience with a variety of populations has helped him develop a wide range of skills to work with most concerns. Brian also prides himself on providing a safe space for all clients. Anyone is welcome in his office.

In his free time, he follows Auburn sports (War Eagle!), and enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and three dogs.
